What is the role of a defense attorney in a military trial?

I am the defense attorney in a mock of the My Lai trial, and need to know the attorney’s role.
This is for an 8th grade enrichment class and I don’t know what the military defense attorney’s role is. Is the role the same as any defense attorney?

      The same role as defense attorney in civilian life the only difference is the same.
      The same role as defense attorney in civilian life the judge and jury are military.

      The the trick question and tried to find the defendant but then reread the defense attorney defends the defendant but then reread the the question and tried to find the trick in it im so old that cant understand the the trick question and say the trick question asked myself what does defense attorney do was going to find.

      As been held true as of late…the defense attorney has absolutely NO role in a military trial. Except to be used as a “show piece” so that Adolph Bush and his military thugs can say “see, we do it fairly”!
