Depends on the job. But if it is a basic office job (clerical work) then I see no reason for them to be that way.
Call centers and factories that run heavy machinery have reasons for alerting your boss when you step away from the phones or say a multi-billion dollar machine. It can effect the work load, cause injuries…etc.
As for them talking rudely. I would say work on finding another job, put up with their rudeness politely and be confident in your skills.
There is always something better or different out there.
They may just be testing you to see if you can handle the pressure though the way it sounds I doubt it.
