captainjackson2004 asked:

Assuming someone has never been arrested before, how would they choose a defense attorney after they have been arrested, detained, or brought in for questioning? They’re in a jail cell or at a police station , and assuming they can afford a good attorney and will not use a public defender, how would they choose a defense attorney? Especially when they only have one phone call?
There shouldn’t be an appostrophe in attorneys.

If you have the option you call a friend or family member, and ask them to get you an attorney. But the attorney you first hire isn’t always critical - what you need initially is someone to handle any arraignment and get you out of jail. You’ll have a reasonable amount of time before trial to find the best defense counsel you can afford.
