Defense Attorney?

captainjackson2004 asked:

Assuming someone has never been arrested before, how would they choose a defense attorney after they have been arrested, detained, or brought in for questioning? They’re in a jail cell or at a police station , and assuming they can afford a good attorney and will not use a public defender, how would they choose a defense attorney? Especially when they only have one phone call? No one answered this question the first time I asked it.
I don’t need an attorney. This is just a general question.

The one phone call concept is kind of outdated most jails have phones inside even so call someone you know on the outside and have phones inside even so call someone you know on the one phone call concept.
An attorney to contact you know on the outside and have them find an attorney to contact you know on the outside and have phones inside even so call someone you know on the outside.

The best thing to do is to phone someone you trust to do research for you, and choose a defense attorney on your behalf. Usually, if you are in jail for the first time you will be let out on your own recognizance, where you will be able to contact an attorney and prepare yourself for court. Also, the courts will allow you to prepare your defense and secure an attorney before your case eventually goes to court, so usually that is not the purpose of the phone call anyway. The purpose of the phone call is to let loved ones know you are in jail. It is against the law for the courts to proceed without first allowing you to prepare your defense.

Pray hard, and don’t discriminate between belief systems.
